2002 – Gaping Gash
BEAVERTON GAPING GASH SHOOTER CUP CHAMPIONS
Love them or hate them, you have to respect the Beaverton Gaping Gash. Their 20-point margin of victory last season was impressive. In fact the 2002 Shooter Cup championship was all but decided in July when Owner Chris Lowery finally navigated his team to the top spot. Once he got there, he never looked back. Magglio Ordonez was named the Gash MVP, while Barry Zito and Randy Johnson shared the Cy Young honours. When asked how it felt to become the inaugural Shooter Cup Champion Lowery responds (in all caps of course)
“ THIS IS ABSOLUTELY FUCKING INCREDIBLE, IT IS JUST A FANTASTIC FEELING TO BEAT ALL YOU LITTLE PUNKS. TO ME THIS IS THE MOST PRECIOUS TROPHY IN ALL OF FANTASY SPORTS. I FEEL VERY PRIVILIDGED TO LIFT THE SHOOTER CUP OVER MY HEAD!”
The blow out at the top was not indicative of the entire league. The parity was fantastic as only four points separated 2nd from 5th. The Poo Dogs, backed by the guidance of fantasy grandfather Bob Riley moved into 2nd spot on the last day of the season, the struggling Fury slipped to 3rd. With only 6 keepers the road to repeat will be a tough one in 2003. Lowery looked confident when saying “I LOOK FORWARD TO DEFENDING MY TITLE IN THE 2003 CAMPAIGN, AND WILL ONCE AGAIN BE THE BEST GAPING GASH I CAN BE!”
