The OBFBL expanded to 14 teams in 2023, but the Hindsight Warriors still kicked the league’s ass!
They set a league record with 135 roto points (out of 140 max) and crushed everyone including last year’s winner (who won with a pathetic 128 points).
Our Hindsight Warriors team for 2023 was built from picks in the draft that could have been taken at specific rounds, plus of course a handful of free agent pickups.
Last year’s team is anchored by our MVP, Cody Bellinger (2nd round pick) who put together a huge rebound season, and by Pablo Lopez (3rd round pick) with a massive breakout season.
How about some power? Marcell Ozuna (7th) and his 40 homers , Jake Burger (FA pickup), and catcher Cal Raleigh (8th round) – BOOM!
Need for speed! We’ll go with Nico Hoerner in the 1st round and his 43 bags, Bryson Stott in the 9th, and Ha-Seong Kim in the 13th.
A handful of boring guys – Isaac Paredes (12th), Yandy Diaz (6th), Josh Naylor (4th) and JD Martinez (5th) were nice stat stuffers.
Then some unexpected breakouts round out the batters – Lane Thomas (11th), and some nice FA pickups – Spencer Steer, Yainer Diaz and James Outman.
Do we even need to draft any pitching? Most of the hindsight warriors were taken off the free agent pile, and they swept 1st place in ALL 5 pitching roto categories. Aside from Pablo Lopez, the starting staff is rounded out by Kyle Bradish in the 15th round, Justin Steele in the 16th, and free agent pickups Zach Eflin, Nick Pivetta and Kutter Crawford.
Finally, the Warrior’s bullpen was full of flamethrowers who delivered high K rates, plus tons of vulture wins and saves/holds – Tanner Scott (FA), Matt Brash (FA), Joel Payamps (FA), Colin Poche and his 12 wins – thank you (FA), Bryan Abreu (17th) Trevor Stephan (13th) and Yennier Cano with his 39 saves/holds were very useful.
As we all know, having stud keepers and lots of extra draft picks will greatly increase your odds for winning, BUT hitting on some key draft picks, and making some nice (or lucky?) FA pickups can get you there as well.
The Hindsight Warriors team proves this every year. No need for keepers or rookie keepers, the Warriors are undefeated!
