Slowly but surely our Website is getting back to the amazing place it used to be.  My goal is to have everything completed by the time we name our Keepers on Friday December 9th.   I am not great with HTML code, so I have stumbled in creating the team pages and record books in my past attempts.  I think I have figured out simple tables that I can use to better format the entire site.  Now I just need to convert the ideas in my head into code.

The first thing I wanted to do was add some flash back into the site.  Some sexy images that make our blog site more fun to surf.  Without further ado, I present to you, the new Page Headers:

and Award Badges:

Each section will get a header image and the Badges will be visible in their appropriate section as well as being proudly displayed in each team’s Trophy Case.  It will be cool to see which franchise has the most badges and the highest rank.

Again, this is just the start, I have a lot of work to do in order to get the site where I want it to be for the 2012 season.  I appreciate you patience and welcome your feedback. Cheers!

The Shooter Cup Returns to Durham

Posted: October 11, 2011 in League News

The Shooter Cup Celebration was once again an amazing night! We capped off our 10th season as a league by crowning the Durham Dick Dogs as Shooter Cup Champions for the second time!

Congratulations to all of our 2011 Money Winners!!

The owners in attendance talked about a few minor rule tweaks that I will open up to the rest of the league in coming weeks.  We have also set the Draft dates for 2012 and conducted both draft lotteries.

ROOKIE KEEPER DRAFT
Monday February 27th, 7pm
Online

ENTRY DRAFT
Saturday March 24th, 10am
Fisher Estates, Oakville

Thank you to everyone in attendance.  I really appreciate the efforts of Main and Sean from driving from the west to hang with us tonight!!  It’s always a fun time to talk about baseball with the best fantasy players in the business!   The Dates Section has been updated as has the Flickr Photo Album of tonight’s event….which includes the “After” shot from the photo above.  Enjoy!

I still applaud our former owner Damon Hawkey for being so stubborn during the 2009 Rule Changes and developing our unique and effective Participation Score system. I am always reading comments in forums from frustrated Commissioners who are having Championship races being effected by owners losing interest after the all-star break and taking to try and get a better draft pick. I’m so glad to beyond that and to actually reward the teams that are the most active despite where they finish in the standings.

Here is the final Participation Score Rankings for 2011 and the breakdown of the Lottery Balls for both the Rookie Keeper and Entry Draft:

Congratulations to the Frankford Fury for their perfect score (2 years in a row) and the Aurora Asshats who where only a 1/3 of an inning away from Perfection!!  Both Draft Lotteries will take place at the Shooter Cup Celebration on October 11th.

For the second time the Shooter Cup returns to Durham and to the mantle of Dick Dogs owner Steve Dickie.  It was a dominate season for the team who only made an astonishing 13 transactions to amass 108.5 and the OBFBL title.   It should be noted that while his draft was extremly strong and he did make some timely trades and pick-ups.   Dickie also dealt the #1 (Matt Kemp) and #2 (Justin Verlander) players in fantasy proving once again the team who is willing to sacrifice can reach the ultimate goal!!  Congratulations Dickie on an amazing season!!

We will hear more from Dickie over the weekend with his Shooter Cup Tribute Article.  I will also discuss location with him for his Shooter Cup Party and let you know.

I would also like to congratulate the Ajax Super Sods for their amazing run in the last week of the season that saw them go from a distant 3rd to a 2nd Place finish.  Impressive work Carey!

Sean Chard and the Etobicoke Crackheads seemed to be the biggest rival to the Dick Dogs all season, but inconsistency at the wrong time cost them second place.  Sean was very calculated at the deadline and was able to add some very valuable assets for 2012, I guess you have to ask the question….did he give up too much?

Also of note was the amazing rise of the Pickering Dynasty who in late August was making deals to gain speed and saves despite being at 50-some rotos with many teams ahead of him for 4th place.  I didn’t think he stood a chance, but in true Larry Ellis fashion he figured out a way to be back in the money for an OBFBL record 6th straight time!  That is incredible!

It was an outstanding season guys!!  Thank you for all of your hard work and diligence this year!!  I will post the final Participation scores and firm up the Shooter Cup Celebration in the next couple of days!

Cheers,
Commish

Sean Chard said back at the All-Star break that this record was “At Risk” and last weekend the Crackheads soared passed the Fury with their 193rd save of the season.  With one week to go in the season the Crackheads sit with an incredible 206 saves and 27.1 Innings still to go.  The previous record was set by the Frankford Fury back in 2009, I think it is safe to say this record will last a bit longer then that.

All of the other Season Records look pretty safe……

Batting
Batting Average: .297 (Crackheads ‘07 / Gash ‘02), Current: .281 (Dick Dogs)    Conclusion: record safe
Homeruns: 348 (Dynasty ‘06), Current: 276 (Dick Dogs)     Conclusion: record safe
RBI: 1170 (Dynasty ‘06), Current: 1038 (Dick Dogs)    Conclusion: record safe
Runs: 1254 (Dynasty ‘07), Current: 1070 (Crackheads)    Conclusion: record safe
Stolen Bases: 255 (Fury ‘07), Current: 197 (Dick Dogs)    Conclusion: record safe

Pitching
Wins: 125 (Nomads – now Blue Balls ‘08), Current: 108 (Asshats)    Conclusion: record safe
Saves: 191 (Fury ‘09), Current: 205 (Crackheads)    Conclusion: record SMASHED
ERA: 3.07 (Gash ‘02), Current: 3.15 (Dick Dogs)    Conclusion: record safe
WHIP: 1.10 (Gash ‘04), Current: 1.16 (Dick Dogs)    Conclusion: record safe
Strikeouts: 1447 (Gash ‘04), Current: 1363 (Crackheads)    Conclusion: record safe

Participation Score Projection

Posted: September 21, 2011 in League News

With one week left in the season it is interesting to project how the Draft Lotteries will shape up. Based on the “Pace” in Yahoo here are how each team is estimated to finish the season.

It’s interesting to see that our two new owners are at the bottom of this list.  I guess having lots of “N/A” RKs and prospects really hurts your roster flexibility over the course of a season.  It’s also important to note that both owners have traded their RK picks.

Obviously the Rookie Keeper Draft Lottery will look different given the number of RK picks that have been traded. Here is how the RK lottery would look:

Asshats – 30 Balls
Crackheads – 20 Balls
Tribe – 14 Balls
Gaping Gash – 8 Balls
Blue Balls – 4 Balls
Poo Dogs – 2 Balls
Dynasty – 0 Balls
Gaping Gash – 0 Balls

Fury – 9th Pick
Crackheads – 10th Pick
Dick Dogs – 11th Pick
Tribe – 12th Pick

Dickie Disrespects the Shooter Cup

Posted: September 1, 2011 in League News

The storied history of our league is largely built on the back of the most prestigious Trophy in Fantasy baseball: The Shooter Cup.

It’s the Holy Grail of the OBFBL and as you witnessed at the Trade deadline (the owners in 2nd/3rd trading depth for assets); it’s the ONLY thing that matters!

Despite it’s prestige, Dick Dog has completely disrespected the Cup.  His current Yahoo Avatar is this photo of some other less significant, minor league fantasy sports trophy:

I really hope the fantasy Gods are not watching D-Dog.  If it’s not changed soon, it could very well lead to a prolonged slump and the end of your title run. #neverfuckwiththefantasygods
